We all know that cake is not the most nutritious of food options for people, but in some occasions and in moderation, we can take a slice or two. But.. can dogs too?
Some type of cakes are not okay to give to your dog, for example, never give them a chocolate cake, chocolate is very toxic to dogs. But, is carrot cake safe for dogs? Below, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of feeding your dog a carrot cake.
So can dogs eat carrot cake? Yes they can, there’s nothing toxic in carrot cake. But this doesn’t mean that you should give it to your canine all the time.
The carrot part is great for dogs, especially raw. Carrots are an antioxidant vegetable, help reduce the risks of cancer, which is common in dogs.
Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which contains a lot of nutritional benefits for your dog, beyond promoting eye health and protecting vision, vitamin A strengthens your dog’s immune system and supports coat and skin health. Carrots are a healthy dog treat with low calories and almost no fat. Also carrots are rich in minerals and fiber. fiber will help your dog’s digestive system.
How about the cake part? Not so much. Although some of the ingredients in cake can be healthy, other ingredients like sugar is not healthy for your dog to eat. If you give your dog cake on a regular basis, over time your dog will gain weight and possibly become obese. Obesity can lead to other serious health such as heart disease and diabetes.
Sugar provides zero nutritional benefits. Also the sugar in carrot cake can impact a dog’s oral health (tooth decay), even if you brush your dog’s teeth daily. That’s why a low sugar cake can be better for dogs!
Avoid giving your dog any part of cake meant for humans, such as chocolate cakes, raisins cakes and grapes cakes. Instead, buy or bake a dog friendly cake yourself with appropriate ingredients that your dog can eat safely.
Also if your dog ate a carrot cake, she’s probably just fine and you don’t have to worry about her!
